| Shoe Recycle (Palo Alto) |
Did you know that Americans alone throw away 300 million shoes each year. The time it takes for rubber sole shoes to decompose in our landfills is somewhere in the ball park of 50-80 years. That seem like a long time to slowly decompose millions of shoes and it is. Let me introduce www.shoerecycle.com
Our mission is to "Keep Shoes out of Our Landfills".
We aim to accomplish this goal by provide a free service that collects unwanted shoes and distributes them to a proper recycling option.
We have two categories of unwanted shoes:
One being shoes that are in relatively good conditions and can be used for second hand use. For these shoes we send them to Soles4Souls where they are distributed to people in need.
The Other category involves the shoes that fail to meet this high standard and would otherwise be thrown away. For these shoes we send them to Nike Reuse-A-Shoe where they will be refined into materials that go into constructing artificial athletic surfaces.
